Welcome to Myong Lab at the UIUC Bioengineering Department
Single Molecule and Single Cell Imaging
Our research focuses on the detection of biological molecules such as DNA, RNA and protein with single molecule precision. When in a mixture, behaviors of individual molecules are masked in an ensemble average. By fluorescently tagging the molecules of interest and illuminating them with a laser beam, we can monitor interactions between a protein and a DNA under a microscope. Using the single molecule fluorescence assays as well as high resolution cell imaging technique, we are investigating the following research topics.
- DNA damage repair and genome integrity
- microRNA processing by Dicer and TRBP
- Virus infection and antiviral signaling
